Brent Benson head shotThe Birmingham Knights have made their first import signing of the season in 6’ 2 American combo guard Brent Benson. Brent originally from Gainesville, Georgia, studied and played at Texas State University (a NCAA D1 School) where he created a reputation for himself as a ‘dead eye’ shooter with excellent footwork and defensive skills and notched up and average of 14ppg. He then went on to start his professional career in Poland with Euroleague team Asseco Prokem before returning to the USA to play in the D-League for Springfield Armor, the development team for the Brooklyn Nets. More recently Brent has been developing his coaching at college camps and had also been running his own academy.

Brent had this to say about his move to the Knights “I am excited about joining the Birmingham Knights for the upcoming season. I am familiar with hard work and inner drive and look forward to bringing leadership and experience to the Knights. My ability to work hard as a team player on and off the court allows me to communicate well with younger players. I feel I will be an asset to the team going to the next level”.

Coach Douglas had this to say about Brent, “We have been working on bringing Brent in for some time now and I am extremely happy to have finally secured his signature. He is a very humble, hard working young man who I think will be a massive hit with the fans and also brings some leadership to our young squad.”

He also added “We both agree on how the game should be played and feel that his style of play will fit perfectly with the way we want to play this season. Brent can shoot the ball, defend and will be great in our community programmes plus I am looking forward to seeing him work with our younger players through our Apprenticeship and Academy programmes”.

Brent hopes to be in Birmingham at the start of September ready for two home warm up games against Dublin Thunder and a USA All-Star Select team on September 7th and 8th respectively. The Knights also have two other home games during August, for more information and tickets go to .
